For 10 years, the Minimum Elements and Practice Standards for HIA have guided practitioners by describing core elements that are required for an assessment to be considered an HIA. In September 2019, a SOPHIA working group began the process of updating the 2014 version to reflect the evolution of and lessons learned from the field.
On March 22, 2021, members of the Minimum Elements and Practice Standards working group hosted a webinar to help participants learn about the approach for updating this critical guidance document, as well as to gather feedback on the proposed changes.
The webinar included breakout groups to discuss four broad categories of changes: emphasizing the iterative nature of the HIA process; highlighting the importance of stakeholder and community engagement in HIA practice; defining key outputs for each HIA phase; and developing standards for tracking HIA effectiveness that are feasible for a range of practitioners. A recording of the webinar is available here.
