An Introduction to Health Impact Assessment Training

The Introduction to Health Impact Assessment Training is part of the Advancing Health and Health Equity event taking place directly after the Association of Public Policy and Analysis and Management (APPAM) Annual International Conference. The training will run alongside Lessons from Around the Globe Convening hosted by the Health Impact Project. A preliminary agenda for the training can be downloaded here.

Health Impact Assessment, or HIA, is an adaptable approach that can successfully bring new and valuable perspectives into existing decision-making structures, with the goal of identifying and addressing potential effects of policies on population health where they would otherwise not be considered. This training will include a broad introduction to the HIA process, interactive exploration of critical concepts through real-world examples, and an emphasis on selecting suitable policy decisions to examine through an HIA approach. Join experts from the field to learn the basics of this proven approach to integrating health and equity considerations into ongoing policy formation.

The training will be led by the Society of Practitioners of Health Impact Assessment (SOPHIA),  an international association of individuals and organizations that provide leadership and promote excellence in the field of health impact assessment. SOPHIA trainers represent leading HIA organizations internationally, with experience conducting and providing training on HIAs in a broad range of policy areas. The training is intended for participants who are new to HIA and have little to no HIA experience.

Registration for the full day training is $110 USD.

There is a reduced registration fee for members ($45 USD). You must become a member before registering to qualify for this rate. Membership costs $50 USD for the year. Students qualify for a reduced member rate of $30 USD and may then access the member registration fee.
