Public health preparedness requires cross-sector collaboration and coordination to protect community health and safety. This webinar introduces a comprehensive guide on how to integrate the Health in All Policies (HiAP) framework into preparedness practices in public health and emergency management. By integrating a HiAP approach, practitioners can better address the health implications of decisions, improve outcomes and promote equity. Our speakers, Sandra Whitehead and Christine Ortiz Gumina, will explore the four phases of the disaster management cycle and illustrate the application of HiAP tools and resources to promote effective collaboration in building more resilient communities.

Dr. Sandra Whitehead is the current president of SOPHIA and has been an HIA practitioner, trainer and consultant for the past 15 years. She has trained over 300 practitioners and has consulted with state, local and regional governments as well as the World Health Organization on HIA and Health in All Policies. She is an Assistant Professor and Director of the of Sustainable Urban Planning at the George Washington University.

Christine Ortiz Gumina serves as the Associate Director for Climate and Crisis Preparedness (CCP) at the National Network of Public Health Institutes and manages projects with topics that range from infection prevention and control to environmental health and disaster mortality surveillance. She is driven by the desire to ensure that everyone no matter their social, racial, or economic background, has access to clean air, safe water and food, and healthy housing. She has previously held positions at the National Environmental Health Association and was an Environmental Health Specialist with the City of Norfolk, VA Health Department.
