The Assessment phase of HIA can be the most challenging to design. In the assessment phase, the HIA team assesses baseline conditions and predicts the likelihood, severity and distribution of health impacts. In this webinar, Dr. Sandra Whitehead will draw on the Minimum Elements and Practice Standards, as well as her own HIA experience, to provide attendees with a framework for setting up the assessment phase for success. Topics will include: determining baseline conditions; deciding what data is needed, available and how to collect it; how to engage the community in those decisions; and how to draw on different methodologies to  comprehensively predict impacts.

Dr. Sandra Whitehead is the current president of SOPHIA and has been an HIA practitioner, trainer and consultant for the past 15 years. She has trained over 300 practitioners and has consulted with state, local and regional governments as well as the World Health Organization on HIA and Health in All Policies. She is an Assistant Professor and Director of the Sustainable Urban Planning program at George Washington University.
